Middle School Art Course Descriptions 

Students will explore two and three dimensional art through drawing, sculpture, and painting techniques using a variety of media and methods. Students will improve their skills in problem-solving, critical thinking and self-directed learning while building confidence in their art skills and finding joy in the creative process. Students learn art language and gain a better understanding of the world through art appreciation and art history. Skills to self-assess and critique artwork will be strengthened.

Students will explore two and three dimensional art through techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and printmaking. The elements and principles of art and design will be emphasized in every lesson. Students are encouraged to take risks in their art, create art with meaning, think critically, and solve problems visually, all while having fun in a supportive and nurturing environment. Art history, art criticism and aesthetic appreciation are intertwined throughout the lessons while exploring the role of artists in society throughout history.
