This course is designed to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in elementary school. Students connect ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and use concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems. Students formalize an understanding of division of fractions and extend their learning to the system of rational numbers, including ordering and comparing negative numbers. Students develop their algebraic thinking through writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations. Students develop an understanding of statistical thinking. Throughout this course, students will persevere in problem solving, engage in mathematical arguments, model mathematics, communicate with precision, discern patterns and structures, and analyze the whole situation and work with the details. Students will utilize both content and practice in the context of real world situations.

This course is designed to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in elementary school and sixth grade. Students extend their understanding of operations with rational numbers and develop their proportional reasoning in various contexts. Students develop their algebraic thinking through reasoning with diagrams, expressions, equations, and inequalities. Students build on their understanding of geometry and measurement, solving problems related to scaling, area, surface area, and volume. Students extend the understanding of statistics by drawing inferences about populations based on samples. Throughout this course, students will persevere in problem solving, engage in mathematical arguments, model mathematics, communicate with precision, discern patterns and structures, and analyze the whole situation and work with the details. Students will utilize both content and practice in the context of real world situations.

This course is designed to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in sixth and seventh grade. Students will expand their algebraic thinking to include radical and integer exponents; through reasoning with expressions, equations, and systems of equations. Students will define, evaluate and compare functions. Students will use scientific notation to represent and calculate big and small numbers. Students build on their understanding of geometry to include rigid transformations, similarity and proof of congruence of figure. Students will explore right triangles and the Pythagorean Theorem. Throughout this course, students will persevere in problem solving, engage in mathematical arguments, model mathematics, communicate with precision, discern patterns and structures, and analyze the whole situation and work with the details. Students will utilize both content and practice in the context of real world situations.

This course is designed to help students to grade level readiness. Students will work on mastering their multiplication and division facts. Students will work on both grade level learning experiences as well as content from previous grades and elementary school. Throughout this course, students will persevere in problem solving, engage in mathematical arguments, model mathematics, communicate with precision, discern patterns and structures, and analyze the whole situation and work with the details.
