This course is a study of literature and writing based on an investigation of literary themes and patterns in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. Reading instruction will focus on refining reading strategies, developing the ability to analyze and interpret literary texts, increasing vocabulary, and communicating and extending understanding of critical concepts and skills. Writing instruction will focuses on developing refining, and applying the writing process to a variety of purposes, tasks, and audiences. In addition, students will acquire strong communication skills and develop an increased vocabulary to do so. Finally, students will know how and where to evaluate and access useful and appropriate forms of technology.
