Course Description: In this self-contained course, students will be introduced to the basic fundamentals of life, Biology. Students will learn about the scientific method and better develop their understanding of life as it occurs in nature. Topics will include biological science as a process, cell structure and function, genetics and heredity, evolution and classification, diversity of living organisms and their ecological roles, and an introduction to animal structure and function. Students will conduct scientific investigations in class, and may do research to extend their understanding of life science concepts and apply scientific reasoning and critical thinking skills. Additionally, instruction will focus on reading and writing goals per students' IEPs.
